After graduating college in 2001, I served 5 years on active duty. During one of those years, I was part of Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. I am proud of my service to our great nation and was ready to start building my career and family. I separated as a Captain and transferred to the IRR never thinking I would get called back. I kept close to friends I had in the military who separated before me. None of them received orders and their resignations where accepted as planned. In February of 2009, my world was turned upside down.
I had just moved my family to a new state and my wife and I both started new jobs when the orders came. I had never felt so lost or helpless in my life. And the thought of deploying again while leaving my family behind at such short notice was unbearable.
